1 day and some odd hours to the finish line...
Rhinos,
We are almost at the finish line. You have until 12:01 December 1st (wherever you are) to upload your play to the site in order to be considered a winner. 75 pages makes you a winner and... if you are a winner, you might be wondering how to upload your play...
For these of you looking for instructions on uploading plays, head over to our FAQ to find the answer you need.
If you don't have 75 pages yet, now is the time to press on and get to it. Just think, you can always sleep in December, so go on, just write until you reach 75 pages and you'll be a winner. If you've been with us this long, I have complete faith in you that you can do this. It will feel amazing once you do, I promise you....
I'll be back Monday at the strike of Midnight to officially close Naplwrimo 2009. I will not shed tears just yet, I will not...
Go Rhino Go !!!
What do I do when I have 75 pages ?
It's getting close to winning time and several of you have already won.
Congratulations to our winners !!! I am slowly adding you to the 2008 Hall of Fame page and once December 1st comes, you'll be able to download your fancy winner certificate.
If you are a winner, your play must be uploaded to the site no later then 11:59pm on November 30th.
Here are the instructions on how to upload your play : ( you can also find them in the FAQ section of the site)
First, you need to be logged in to the site to upload your play. After you're logged in, you should see a menu in one of the columns on the right side of the home page. The column should have your user name at the top of it in caps.
It should look something like this :
USER NAME HERE
Click on "Play" and it will take you to the page where you can upload your play. If you already created a page for your play when NaPlWriMo started, just go and edit that page. Once you get to the play creation page ( it should say CREATE PLAY at the top), there will be instructions on how to upload your play. Please read them carefully and follow the instructions. If you are still having trouble , email us and we will help you out.
Note: if you created a page for your play at the beginning of Naplwrimo, your play will automatically be public when you upload it. If you want it to be for your eyes only, email us and we'll change that for you.
Thank you for your patience as we are working on an easier way to set play securities for future years.
Once your play is uploaded, you can go back to that page at any time and add revisions or delete and reupload a more updated file. You can also change the security level on your play at any time by emailing us.
We kindly ask that you do not upload plays that were not written during NaPlWriMo. Thank you.
The Forums : How to Use Them.
Here are the main forums rules as set by Josh Conkel, our Forums Moderator extraordinaire and Dorothy Lemoult, Rhino founder of all things NaPlWrimo.Remember... none of this is the absolute truth. They are simply helpful things that will help you and everyone else have a good time !
- GROUND RULES
1. Don't be a jerk. We're all here to have fun and write a play, so please be respectful of the other writers at all times.
2. Everyone must check-in weekly. The weekly check-in is posted on Sundays in the forums. If you want to stay on track, writing 18 pages per week is a good goal.
The daily check-in is just to keep you motivated and put you in touch with other playwrights. Though not mandatory, I find that it's really helpful in keeping the writing process going.
- SUBJECT FIELD IN FORUM TOPICS
When you start a new forum topic or respond in a thread, try to make your subject as specific as possible. If you don't put a suject, the site automatically picks the first few words of your post. It can be annoying to have titles appear as "well, yeah..." or "i know... me too" so try to choose a specific heading.
This is really helpful for readers to quickly find the information they need in the forums. For instance if you're starting a thread and want to know about forums, it's much better to have Forums as a subject line then Can anyone help me ? . A good rule of thumb is to omit little words and subjects in subject lines. Adjectives and nouns are usually a better choice...
- HOW WILL I KNOW IF SOMEONE RESPONDS TO MY FORUM POST ?
Just wanted to remind you that the recently posted page is your friend. It will show you everything that's been posted to the site since you last visited. The forums currently don't have the ability to email you when someone responds to your post or thread so this is probably the easiest way to check on the forums. There is much improvement to be done on the NaPlWriMo in the coming years and we know that, but only by your sticking around, will we be able to implement all these new features and ideas. Thanks for being here. Thanks for playing !
- COMMENT VIEW SETTINGS.
Why are comments not nested together on forum threads?
This is an option set by users. To set your own, follow these instructions.
At the bottom of each thread, you should see the following:
Comment viewing options
Select your preferred way to display the comments and click "Save settings" to activate your changes. To have nested comments, you have to select "threaded comments". "Flat list" displays the comments as they are posted without nesting them together.
