Day two.

By josh-con-carne - Posted on 02 November 2008

I haven't written anything yet today, but I'm only just having my coffee. I have a hangover, and I have to go to a production meting. Then I'm having brunch and THEN it's back to writing.

That's not a blank screen, that's a play rising from nothing to be birthed into the world, squawking and roaring!

Go Team!

Whoo whoo!

:o)

too.

I have renamed my three main characters a bazillion times, researched the meanings of their names, and then ended up with two of the three back with their original names after all.

I want to write [Thanks Amy! :o)] about Margaret, as flawed as she is, in three dimensions.  I want to write about Ruth to show that she isn't just a polyanna pushover, but that she has flaws of her own.  I want to write about Praveena so that even in the court room, you will see why she is called "Mad Dog" by her team mates and friends.

Mostly, I want the plot to go somewhere without hearing that horrible grinding and clonking noise that an obvious cliche makes...

Back to the gotta-pay-those-pesky-bills [but at least not from any cow injuries]

I am behind but the beginning is always the hardest. I have 2 pages ! And of course on a solo show that's pretty dense because there is only 1 person talking ! It's already way weirder than I had imagined but I've decided that I am not editing or censoring this month. i am just going to keep writing regardless !

Go Rhino, go !

Yesterday I got twelve...today, just four. Just 59 more to go for 75...

Is it too pathetic that I needed to use a calculator to figure that out?

Now now, don't confuse us like this !

besides the fact that for me, playwriting is what has always come naturally to me -- novels are what I wrote because I thought it was more marketable and socially acceptable. Now that I don't care and also feel I have a mission to bring transformation to the stage, I'm happier than I've been in a long time.

Anyway, I appreciate all you do for us -- other playwrights out in the world -- and hope you will honor your work by making the time -- and I mean that in the nicest possible way, and not as a glib exhortation to just, "Make time" because there are in fact only so many hours in a day and numerous obligations and priorities to fulfill in that time.

Having said that, well I hope your many priorities can be compartmentalized and that you can make a shelf for NaNo during this crazy time. :-)

as I am a notorious "fit and start/ binge and starve" writer, is to take a break to do a Natalie Goldberg writing exercise called, eponymously enough (is that a word?) "I want to write about."

I want to write about Max and the way he is compelled to argue with everyone around him about every conceivable thing.

I want to write about Gina and how she loves him through it all, defends him from those who would throw punches to his face, and still has time to save all the stray puppies of Stuckeyville from certain demise at the hands of Max's mother Mathilda at the city pound.

I want to write about Henry and Charlie coming back from the war, wounded in mind while pristine in body, and how they each try to seduce Gina for their own purposes.

You get the idea. Things like this help me get to my next scene whether I'm writing a play or a novel.

Tomorrow's my day off as I worked Saturday, but Tuesday I will feel the cramp of my style as work calls.

But I may flip on my headphones and write into the night. Not feeling the greatest and am also working on props for "It's a Wonderful Life" at our community theatre. However, tomorrow is another day.

I've been reading the ancient legends of St. Brigid and St. Patrick to incorporate them into my 21st century plot. I'm not thrilled with what's come out so far, but I'm determined to keep going anyway.

The way to win is to persevere! I wish everyone the best.

I managed a great day today because I was huddled under a comforter in the back bedroom of our trailer whilst my beloved and her daughter winterized it around me.

The typing flowed...but I refuse to think about quality, who knows?  it  could be crap. but it will be FINISHED crap hahahahahaha

Work tomorrow will definitely put a crimp in my style - darn that rent-food-kitty litter [or mortgage-dog food-car payments] conundrum...

This is like starting a work out with too many reps...I wonder if my brain will be cramped on Monday.

Yes, and.... remember that sometimes in order for things to click, you just have to write. This advice is as much for me as for you. :)

I'm glad you dig it. We're certainly working hard to make sure everybody has a good time!

But I've been thinking about it all day, from my shower, all through work, and now while I wait for my partner. We're going to see a show. Hopefully by the time I get home tonight, something will click and I'll write something.

Have I mentioned how much I dig this?

It's morphing already. Even the title has changed.... This is why I do these things...

Go Rhino, go !

If it helps, I haven't written anything at all yet, don't know what I'm going to write or have any form of a plot/idea, and have multiple projects to do for classes tomorrow. :D
