Day one.

I've written six pages so far!

I'm going to win at this thing if it kills me!

Speaking of future---I have a 10-minute play making it's American debut this weekend at the FUTURE TENANT, Future 10 Play Festival in Pittsburgh.  http://www.futuretenant.org/programs_FutureTen.html

If any of you rhinos are in the Pittsburgh area, please check it out and let me know how it goes.  Alas, I am half a world away in Singapore.

Oh and btw, I've got 36 pages.  I downloaded the Celtx software, but haven't figured out how to take an existing play and format it in Celtx.  Do I have to do it line by line?  I realized that if I simply copied and pasted, it treats the whole text as the same and ignores extant formatting.

Best,

Dean

Um, can I steal that ?

Holy crap. What if my solo show ends up not being a play but just me blabbing endlessly ? Scarrrrrred.

Go Rhino, go !

Remember, Josh--I am a day ahead.  Take heart, my friend.

Today was very productive.  Finished the first act.  Elizabeth (our expert resident volunteer dramaturg) found a beautiful piece of music for my Jennifers.

I cried writing the first scene for the 2nd act.  I felt emotional, inspired and awed all at the same time.

I wrote a poem.

I cried some more

And felt incredibly at peace with the universe.

After all that, I hope someone else will like my play besides me!  Ha! Ha!

In the end, I'm through 29 pages.  I think it's going to be 90 pages or so when finished.  I am a firm believer in the re-write however.  My first drafts are usually half-wrought lumps of clay that still need to be molded, fired and decorated before being battle tested and ready to give as a gift. I realized too that my protagnist hardly ever is not on stage.  He does disappear from time to time, but not for long.  I think this play will work best "in-the-round."  Of course, Hamlet didn't get a whole lot of breaks either.

Peace!

Relationship schmelationship. I kind of like it when plays dive right in.

Well done, lady!

Ten pages of MONOLOGUE. The other character hasn't really spoken yet.

You shut your mouth, DEan!

All right, fine. Well played, sir.

I managed to get twleve! Of course it's a pretty rough 12...much revising to come after I finish (or while I continue to write) and I am probably eliminating a character that I no longer think deserves to be there.

My first scene was fun and challenging for me because I set it on a split stage. I thought it would be the first two scenes, but they needed to be done at the same time, so I have both parts running at the same time...not talking over each other, but woven together.

Then my family *needed* me. I hate to stop when I've started because it can be hard for me to start again. I have a lot of things that only I can do today, so I don't know if I'll get much writing done today...unless I sneak away and bail on responsibility (and that is SO tempting...and I am SO weak, lol)

That is awesome.

I have nothing. I am terrified. I have a structure and a premise but I am just frozen. I am going to start tomorrow morning when I am not awake enough to be freaked out. 5 pages tomorrow...I can do it !

Go Rhino, go !

I'm thinking of that cell phone company commercial in the U.S. from a few years ago where everyone was screaming "Seven!"

That of course is not counting the cover page.

And it's mostly dialogue one liners back and forth, and this part is not going to be the beginning because I have to establish a relationship first -- not just have two other characters speaking about it.
