Second in a trilogy of plays bringing stories of women saints to the 21st century, Brigid Kildare's Steel Works is based on the combination of fact and legend that has arisen about St. Brigid of Ireland who lived and died in County Kildare in the fifth century.

Like her fifth century predecessor, Brigid Kildare in the 21^st century is the best friend of a hero, Patrick, and the daughter of a local chieftain (the town mayor) and a pagan slave (not sure what her modern vocation will be). Ancient Brigid started an art school for metalworking. Brigid Kildare welds public sculptures in a garage she shares with a group of charitable bikers. Ancient Brigid multiplied one keg of beer so numerous churches could have enough ale to celebrate Easter for over two weeks. Brigid Kildare makes sure the bikers have enough beer to celebrate, too. Like the star of the first play in the series, "The Feast of Jovi Bono," Brigid Kildare has a Facebook page connected with mine.

I hope in evenutally producing these plays (the third will tell the story of St. Clare of Assisi for our time) to create community through social networking, not only posting video trailers for the plays on YouTube and Facebook but also presenting opportunities for the (I hope) succession of actresses who play these title roles to add to their Facebook pages and in so doing further create the characters.

"The Feast of Jovi Bono" has guests who come to the table and tell their stories in the form of slam poetry. I don't see "Brigid" as having the slam poetry component at this point but we shall see.

Like her ancient predecessor, Brigid is best friends with Patrick and together they will challenge their community to come together in a crucial situation and triumph.
