The Doppels

By PhilintheBlank5 - Posted on 02 November 2011

Hi there-

My name's Phil, this is my first NaPlWriMo, and I'm glad to be doing it. Can't wait to see the progress everybody makes throughout the next four weeks.

The play I'll be writing this month is called THE DOPPELS. The inspiration for this play came over the summer, when my boyfriend created digital versions of ourselves in "The Sims." Because the Sims are programmed with customized personalities, we found interactions between the Sims to eerily mirror moments in our own real-life relationship, often to humorous and disturbing detail. It made me think about larger questions of self-duplication - is there a human need to replicate ourselves to understand ourselves? Is it all narcissism? Or is there something deeper behind it?

I have four or so pages down and am hoping to craft a well-made play that's not only really funny, but also explores man's inner desire for himself.

Once again, so excited for this!

But there are also people who would think that the every day for the belstaff jackets baby is a special day for them and would like to dress the baby in the best way they can dress. Coming towards the designer baby clothes, there are many people who go for the branded clothes as they are reliable and are worth purchasing. The fabrics used in belstaff sale making the clothes differ and these designer clothes would stand longer than the cheap baby clothes. Now that there are people with different mind sets, the trending market has got clothes for the baby that range from the cheapest to the costliest. Now it's completely a choice of the people to either choose the best clothes for the baby of choose some cheap clothes forthe baby as the baby is in a growing period and clothes are bound to become short belstaff leather jacket after few months. The present market has clothes with different sizes, so people can pick up clothes and get the fitting size that looks good on the baby. cheap baby clothes are also chosen for the baby to reduce the cost in the clothing and concentrating more towards the health of the baby. The clothes for the baby should also be chosen as to cover the baby during the weather conditions. For example in the winter season, the baby should be covered belstaff bags with warm clothes such as sweaters, scarf, and other warm clothes which would be helpful for the baby to litianmaoyi-linlin2013.1.14 stay warm in the cold weather.

This summer on the theatre retreat Phil and I were both part of, we spent a week dividing into groups of playwrights, dramaturgs, and designers to brainstorm and work on collaborative projects. And it was AWESOME.

My first group came out with an outline for what we were calling the heavy metal children's play. It's a fairytale-esque story, about a knight who is given a magical sword after rescuing a trapped fox. The sword, known mythologically as Hammer, is said to be the most powerful sword ever created and only passed down to one who is truly worthy. On his quest to save the land from a great dark evil, our hero starts to let the power of Hammer get to him a little and becomes a bit cocky. When he finally confronts the great evil, he is shocked to find that Hammer is absolutely useless in fighting this elusive enemy. He has to discover a new way of combatting this evil that does not involve a sword. The sword's name is playing off of the saying that "if your only tool is a hammer, all of your problems look like nails."

One of the other characters is a Bard who is going to sing a few songs, the first of which is the legend of Hammer and a warning that it may NOT be the solution to every problem. And the songs are kind of in a Metallica-does-storytime style. :) If Phil is comfy with it, we can post the video of the song he wrote on the retreat. It's all kinds of awesome.

I've been thinking about this alot. I write and devise, so I feel it would be good for Naplwrimo to reflect the variety of ways that plays get written and to encourage collaboration! I'm all for incorporating adding collaborative and devised plays into the mix. I'm not sure what the parameters would be, but am open to suggestions.  Let's keep a conversation going about it.

Cheers,

Elizabeth

Go Rhino, go !

If collaborative plays qualified for Naplwrimo, I would've so loved to recruit you, Meron, and Corianna to get out a draft of the heavy metal children's play this month. But I'm still using the month to try my best to write the first draft of what will be my staged reading for New Rep in June.

By the way I totally plugged Freedom Art and Playwrights' Commons in the Rhino Org section... oh yeah.

Hahaha you got it Colleen! Excited to keep tabs on your progress this month as well. #FreedomArt for the win!
