Countdown: N-1 days: How I Intend to Enjoy the Last Couple Days of October

By solarcirclegirl - Posted on 30 October 2011

I'm writing this in the early morning hours because after I get off work today I am going to see They Might Be Giants play in Iowa City. I've waited ten years to see them play, as has my husband. We are going to see our favorite band for the first time together tonight!

How are you enjoying the last couple days? How are you gearing up for November?

I had serious power outage/internet outage issues until today, thanks to the snowstorm/Nor'Easter...so I spent a few days catching up on sleep, because I know I won't be getting much in the month of November. In my time zone, we begin in six hours and fifteen minutes. Yipes.

I've been and will be doing all of the above, in various order. I had 3 teeth extacted on Friday, had to do some important clothes shopping with my youngest daughter yesterday for her big Senior picture photo shoot today (and go with her for that shoot) Tomorrow drive 120+ miles to/from work...

...and all I really want is a pain pill and sleep...getting some of both now.

I'm making my kids' halloween costumes. My daughter is going to be Rapunzel, my 4 year old is going as Batman (easy, just need to make a cape), and my oldest is going as a Creeper (from Minecraft). So I'm running around trying to get all the supplies to make things and then trying to finish things.

I made Blondies. And they are the best to date. A couple of months ago I had a Blondie obsession and tried all kind of recipes, but couldn't get the right texture/taste. Finally got the recipe from my friend. They are awesome.

A friend came over for dinner last night and we did our first ever Lego Bag Build. You have to assemble a Lego set while it's sealed inside a Ziplock bag. All of the kids and adults were quiet and focused. Very fun.

My brain is on overdrive.

I want a nap.

My kids love They Might Be Giants (and so do I). I'm planing on seeing Crooked Still in a couple of weeks.

I saw a new play Friday night. I had to fit it in before things got crazy. Saturday I curled up in a corner of the library and worked through a revision of my one-act. That night my boyfriend and I braved the crazy October snow we had up in the Northeast yesterday and went to a Halloween party. We were Ace Ventura and Dan Marino.

Today I'm planning to spend the afternoon next to the space heater with my laptop and a cup of coffee or hot cider. The first item on the table is to read through yesterday's revisions and fine-tune a bit. After that will be either trying to fix up two ten-minute plays OR beginning the cheating I need to do on starting this new play early. Which I should've done a week ago. I've been putting it off. I'm rationalizing it by telling myself that at least I'm cheating less for Naplwrimo even though I'm right up against my workshop deadline.

Enjoy They Might Be Giants!!! I'm seeing the Foo Fighters 11/17. It will be hard to get my writing in that day. :)
