Sunday Check-In #3: (Day 21: November 21)

By solarcirclegirl - Posted on 21 November 2010

Happy Sunday, Rhinos! This is our second to the last Sunday check-in!

I haven't seen a lot of you on the site recently. I hope to see a lot of you posting today, because this place is more fun when everyone plays along!

Whether you've been busy with life or writing, please take a moment's break to let us know where you are!

I think a lot of people are experiencing the life getting in the way thing. There's six days left until the end of the month, and i am on page 53 (top of it). So I am getting there too! Please let us know when you're done!

Also, excellent news abut your Beloved! I am glad that she is enjoying it.

I will find info for posting the plays when you are finished. :) Write on, both of you!

I have been neglectful this year of the forums. Sigh. There has been much busy-ness and travel that has intervened.

But the play is almost done - I have to tidy up the ending, and add a small scene, but it's going okay.

The best part of this month has been the fact that my Beloved, who has never written a play before in her life [despite being a volunteer producer, director, organizer, props mistress, stage manager, etc. etc. in children's and adult theatre for many years], is close to completing her own play. It's about children's experiences with immigration, and it's excellent.

My Beloved hasn't reported in much to the Forums here, But without me signing her up for NAPLWRIMO, she may never have taken the big step of putting her characters in a box and letting them talk. And she's loving it!

So, it's all a success as far as I'm concerned!

Woot woot!

Just going really slow right now. But that's kind of been the pace writing this play. Very slow. it reads fast. Writes slow.

Gets frustrating.

I actually haven't worked on this project-will do so tonight.  On Saturday I had a writing audition (yeah, interesting, right?) for a sooper seekrit project.  There were about 15 of us in a room collaborating and writing and acting and it was amazing.  Keep on keepin on!

A ship in the harbor is safe, but that's not what ships are for.

I always end up scrambling at the last minute, no matter what it's for. The good thing is though that I almost always do get everything done on time.

I haven't been able to comment much this year, but I did the three pages/day thing in 2008 and it worked pretty well for me. I was just about done by Thanksgiving (which I think was late that year).

You're almost there! yay!!! My fake (ineligible for winning) revision project is a total nightmare because of stupid things like graduation requirements getting in the way... I have to worry more about thesis approval forms and margin widths than I do about the actual writing. :(

I'm 60 plus pages in and am not always sure where I'm going with this beast, but I look at it and I actually like this piece that I'm writing. I haven't put in Act divisions yet but I'm pretty sure where they will lie. Charging on...probably lots of editing and rewriting to do but hey that's for after November, eh?

Thank you both for the encouraging words - it helps more than you know!

For me, the deadline looming, regardless of how behind I am, if I have a deadline, I'm golden.

And the two of you will be also, I know it! Write on!

You're not the only one good sir. I'm hoping this week will be better than the last!

I'm still at less than 20 pages and haven't written in days - very discouraging. I plan a pretty heavy push this week, but it'll have to be a big one to get me into a good place. Thanks for the encouragement!

I find that in my plays I do a lot of writing the subtext actually out in the play and then going back in the revision process and burying it. I have discovered that while that helps me figure out my subtext in the play, it makes for a terrible first draft. It's okay that they talk a lot about their lives and their actions, it can show you how to edit it later.

Also, we are thinking in February or March of doing a NaPl(rewriting)mo! You are welcome to stick around for that--there will be more info following with that soon!

Third week and I'm in my 48th page. Problem is: My characters talk a lot about their lives, their actions, but don't do much. Of course I will edit in December, but still...

Anyway, good luck to all Rhinos and see you next week!
