Day 8: Monday, November 8

By solarcirclegirl - Posted on 08 November 2010

Good morning, Rhinos! I hope the weekend treated you well and you worked extra hard because of the time change (if you had it, that is). This morning, I was looking around the internets for something inspiring for all of us, and I stumbled on this.

5. Don't get distracted by how much you are or aren't getting done.

All of them are good, but this one hits home for me frequently. I am a perfectionist to a certain point, and this is a big one for me. Sometimes I get down on myself for not getting done as much as I should get done. It's a collosal waste of time--I know this, I'm sure if you do this, YOU know this. But I would like to say that this is a co-worker of the Editor.

It's good to note to yourself a goal and how much of it you're getting done. I mean, how else will you know how much you are or aren't getting done toward the goal otherwise? But don't dwell on it.

I know that to complete my play in 30 days, I should write 2.5 pages every day. I know this won't happen because life happens. I just try my hardest to get it done, and don't use it to distract myself from when I do have time to come to the work and do some work.

So that is my advice today: don't get distracted by how much you are or aren't getting done. Additionally, don't beat yourself up over it. Just come to it and work. Part of this is to learn to give yourself a break and do as much as you can. You're cultivating a habit and that's what matters more in the end than how much you do or don't get done.

Write on!

Also, what DID you do today? And it's okay if you didn't completely anything or you met your daily goal--come here and let us know what's up!

I don't know about anyone else, but when I have a huge daunting task, breaking it down into smaller pieces definitely helps. I am still at about 2.5 pages a day myself, but I am sure to get off task rather quickly. :) Write on!

That sounds like a title for a play actually ...

OK - I'm back. I have had a bad week. Still on page one. No point moaning about bad luck as there is still another 21 days to. Just means the average is now more like 3.5 pages a day.

pretend every day is Monday. :)

I got about 2.5 pages done today so far, which is good, except I didn't get anything done in the previous week. Eep! If I only end up writing on Mondays, its going to take a long time to get to 75 pages.
