Week #4 and FINAL: Sunday, November 29th

By solarcirclegirl - Posted on 28 November 2009

Post here about the last full week of NaPlWriMo. Did you make the goal you set for yourself? Did you exceed? If you didn't, tell us too! No judging here! Did you find out anything delightful, surprising, disturbing, or possibly just plain wrong about your characters, the play, the plot? I'm not talking personal judgement on your writing, i'm just thinking something surprising might have come up, because it always does.

After today, there's 24 hours left.

I have to say, it has been a fun ride with you guys through November 2009. I hope you had as much fun as I have. I've enjoyed reading your posts, your joys, your pains, and to see that everyone is in the same boat. In a career like ours, it's very lonely, isolated. To be able to share that for just even a month, it's wonderful. I hope you feel the same.

Enough mushiness, write, write, write! and post post post! We're in the home stretch!

I completely agree with this! Playing is a huge part of the fun, whether winning or not!

Naplwrimo will start again November 01st next year... You can also play in Script Frenzy in April .  It's run by the nice people of Nanowrimo, not by us, but it should be really great!

Hope to see you next year. Spread the word~!

Go Rhino, go !

for all of you apologizes, i couldn't make it. i feel like a total failure for even considering ending it today.
but i do have something brilliant to say:

when will start the next naplwrimo month?

and thank you for all of you, it has been a very nice trip, with a lot of support of all of you guys here and a lot of new ideas and thoughts to take with me to the world outside of this system, too.

naplwrimo is fantastic!!! and so are you all in it!

gongrats to all winners and gongrats to all loosers like me too, because sometimes even loosing can be best thing that has happened to you. it just takes more time to diggest than winning.

keep still going rhinos! there's less than hour in my time until that writing month ends...

Go Rhino, go !

I'm glad you didn't give up. It's quite a feat to even stay in the game this long. There is always next year and at least you have began a new play!

Go Rhino, go !

Depending on the required formatting (I have yet to look into it), I have 65 pages as of yesterday. That's in a 12 size font. 55 in 10 size font.

And I still have to start a link with my play title (which just came to me this weekend).

look at you guys!!! I am so happy and proud of you! I hope you are too!

I've been having a hard time pushing past 30 pages. Up to 35 now and as a slow writer I can see that I'm not going to make 75 by tomorrow night. On the bright side I'm starting to like the christmas play - even if it makes my stomach hurt. Congrats to all the winners and those who are pressing on!

Just over 76 pages. I pushed to get it finished by last Tuesday ('cause I knew the holiday & weekend would be tough for writing) and I'm glad I did. Don't know if I'll do anything more with this particular play, but it felt good to get some words on some pages -- that's job one for a writer, after all, and everything else is secondary.

A big "Thanks!" to all the rhinos who make this happen...

For those still pushing to get there, I'm rooting for you -- but what are you reading this for? Get writing!

Last night, I had 10 pages left, but I decided I wanted to make one last push and cut that down. About two hours (and twenty pages later) I had actually finished the play. It didn't end exactly as I imagined, but it was pretty close, and fortunately, it managed to tie it up with the beginning, which is nice, and unintentional, but I like. I need to go back and re-read it now, and start editing. Or maybe even rewriting. But I got it done, and I'm super excited about that.

i fell in love. and all sudden i couldn't write no more. so what will i do with my few pages of 30? i tell you what. i will do it. even if i have roughly 24 hours. i will do it. i never was good runner when they told u to start, i always got my best when i saw the finish line.

and i am seeing the line already

really, everyone, do not give up! 1 hour of 21 centuries is not long, but one hour for 10 pages can be possible! and in fact, is possible!

please forgive me my week of no pc, including visiting forums and overall universal internet. it's just, silly love.

My updates have been so rare this month. It's been hard. I'm at about page 40 with my play, but as mentioned before, not all of that was written in November. I'm hoping to add 10-20 more pages to that today though because I have class on Monday. And I wrote some song lyrics for an assignment and part of a one-act. And might try to get another one-act started tomorrow night if I can stay awake. Plus I worked at the box office for a few weekends at my theater. So I've been productive, but I'm nowhere near winning (as expected). I was too busy and spread too thin this year. I just feel bad that I couldn't be more active on the website because I really do love it here.

The good thing is that I've gotten some really helpful feedback on the 40 pages I do have so far. The great thing about being in an MFA program is that I'm getting to hear my in-progress stuff read on a regular basis, which is a new thing for me. I'm hoping to get a rough draft completed over my break between semesters so that I can really work on revising it during the spring semester and also get started on drafting a new full-length.

Congratulations to everyone who has won or will win within the next 24ish hours. I wish I could've been a more active member/blogger this year. I'll hopefully check back in later today/tomorrow so I can at least end with a slight feeling of involvement. :)

If it's not finished, just keep working! You'll get there, and I am so happy to see that your work is going so well. If you want, you can hit me up with updates, if not on here, you can email me or facebook me. My email address for either is tonimariewilson@gmail.com.

I'm up to 77 pages. But I haven't finished the play. So I have mixed feelings. I'm happy that I managed to press on and just write. And I think my writing routine has probably been permanently improved.

So my stats look ok, but as (I think it was) Hamlet said, the play's the thing. Will need a minor miracle for this to be finished tomorrow, but I'm resolved to continue as if November has 55 days if needed to "knock the bastard off"

No, you overestimate me! It's my third year, but only my second win - the first year I had major computer meltdowns mid-month and lost everything. Although that play did go on to be written and have a life. Last year I won, and I must revisit that play - to be honest I just sorted of ended it for the sake of ending it. But this one...this one I have high hopes for!

Congratulations Karen!

Is this your 4th Naplwrimo as a winner?

Go Rhino, go !

The last week was great for me and I absolutely could not have done this without a friend who was reading pages along the way. He asked such great questions, and pointed out some continuity errors, and basically was my outside eyes which helped keep me on track. I'm at 79 pages, but still doing some edits today and tomorrow. And I might change the title!

I didn't push the central relationship far enough. Usually I'm guilty of going overboard and having to pull back. I know that in my next pass on the script, I'm going to push my central characters to that psychotic place some relationships reach -- that place of mutual self-destruction.
