I spent last night stuck in traffic, but I had uploaded my play before Thanksgiving. I kept it private though because it's really in a horrible state right now and needs a lot of work. I hope to go back to it in a few weeks after I finish up the class I'm in.
Thanks to all of you for a great month... the support of the website really helped me through it (I would often check the website every night before I started writing as a way to motivate myself). I've gotten stuck and abanondoned drafts lots of time before this, so it was a good experience to learn that I could keep pushing forward and finish something (even if what I'm now left with is completely awful).
I lost! 50 pages!
But I think the piece will be something I develop in future and will continue to work on, and be something I might actually like (how about that?)
Towards the end I had your archetypical "man enters with a gun" moment, only this man entered with a gun and then put on a threatening puppet show with a monkey puppet. I am looking forward to returning to that.
Thanks to everyone here. I'm not one to make my "process" known, or really talk about the tough time I'm having working through stuff, so this was a really great exercise in terms of figuring out how to articulate that, and also for the "you are not alone" department. Thanks everyone!
I got to page 41 but it is a solid first half. I did upload it in the archive for any commentary. I was interrupted by working on the two other plays in the triology as well as computer failure and illness, but even so, there are huge questions of faith and psychology that I will have to explore, research and if not answer, then decide on before it is finished.
Thanks to all, including Dorothy, Dusty, Dean, Josh, my fellow Iowan Solar Circle, and everyone for making this such a vibrant community.

I won, but mostly, I finished. You cannot imagine what a joy it brings to have something in hand that was in my imagination for a very long time - and now it's real!
Thank you all, Rhinos, but especially Dorothy "Admin Rhino" and Josh- I am going to miss checking in every day to see what's up in the Rhino neighbourhood. :o(
I not only lost the challenge by not finishing the play in time, I also lost the disk where I was saving the play.
Today, when I came in to work, there was the disk...on my desk. I haven't been here in a week, and the office was locked down for Thanksgiving, so I didn't really have a chance, even if I had had some extra time (which I did from Saturday after 10 when my son & his family left to go back home to Minn.).
I have a good solid 1/2 of a play, and I know for a fact that I'll have a couple weeks of extra free time in January between the beginning of the year and the new semester when work gets crazy and I start grad school to finish the play.
So, I don't feel like a complete failure...just a loser, a loser of the challenge, a loser of time, a loser of the play...but also a finder of hope for the future.
It's been fun, and I'll try again another time.
thanks, Dorothy, for being crazy enough to take this on in the midst of all you've got going on.
i'm so glad i did it. i got a terrible play out of it. ;-) well, it's terrible right now. but i'm going to set it aside for a month while i get back to paying clients, and see what i have in January.
the end is terrible. i really couldn't figure out what was supposed to happen, so i kinda just ... stopped. so under normal circumstances, i wouldn't consider the draft finished. but i got the page limit completed, so i'm counting it for naplwrimo purposes.
i'm not uploading, though. i wasn't a rule-follower, so i'm punishing myself. ;-) no, really, it just doesn't matter because i wouldn't have wanted to script to be public anyway. not at this supremely crappy stage.
thanks everyone for your enthusiasm!
