Well, folks, it's pretty simple. The only way to win is to follow...

THE SEVEN RULES OF THE RHINO
typewriter n

1.You can't start writing before 12:00am
  on November 1st.
2.You gotta be done with your draft by November 30th at 11:59pm.
3. Your play must be a brand new play ( no screenplay) ; ie: you can not work on a previously started draft. ( yes, we changed it this year, sorry)
4.Your draft has to be at least 75 pages. (we're talking a standard script page such as this one or something close enough to that, with a font no larger than 12pt courier)
5.You gotta write it all by yourself ( in the future, perhaps we'll have teams, but for now, just little you - I know, we're mean, I know)
6.You must report weekly ( by sunday of each week) on the forums on your progress. ( this will be better explained later.
7.Your must upload your play to the main site by 12:00am December 1st.

What else is there to know or...
"Your mascott's weird but i kind of like it."

Naplwrimo's mission is to nurture playwrights of all levels while fostering community and the creation of new theatrical works on a global level.

Community is a pretty important thing to us. We don't believe that playwrights have to be alone in a darkened room with absynthe by their side to be good. What we do believe, however is that talking about our work, sharing about our process and asking for help from other writers are the three greatest things we can do to get us writing. That's why we have the mandatory weekly check-in.. and while we can't force you to abide by that rule, we can guarantee you that if you don't participate in the forums, it's going to be a hell of a lot harder to finish your play and win. Take it or leave it, I am just sayin'.
You don't have to be a playwright to write a play. You just have to want to write a play. And while we call ourselves National Playwrighting Month, we really mean International Playwrighting Month but we don't want to change it because we like the name NaPlWriMo and we like our apple rhino.
Speaking of which...
dusty typewriterWhat shall we name our apple rhino ? We think he is pretty cute and we want to name him, so go ahead...email us at info@naplwrimo.org and tell us what you think he should be called !

We are so excited to have you join us and we hope that you will follow the only rule that isn't in the rules : HAVE FUN !!!!
Looking forward to writing with you !
